Everyone has that one relationship that didn’t go so well. If you could just have a redo, you’d do everything differently. Not to make it to happily ever after, just to make sure that you came out on top of the breakup. The good news is that you can actually give it a go. If you’re in a rut and thinking about the old days more and more, give that ex’s number a ring or look her up online. You might need a trip to the past to change your luck.
If You’ve Changed Show It Off
Maybe you dated her during a not so great time in your life. Maybe you’d just graduated college and were trying to find a career, and in the meantime you were the assistant manager at a restaurant. There’s nothing wrong with that. But you want to show off how far you’ve come and all you’ve done since then. Maybe you work out a hell of a lot more now than you used to. Whatever you’ve done, when you take her out to just “get together for some drinks” make sure that you can bring it up and show it off. Pick her up in a nice car, wear a muscle shirt, and make it clear that you’re a really different guy than you were before.
Keep Her on the Hook
When you’re going out with someone you’ve been out with before, you don’t have to pull out all the stops. Make her wait for you. If she always used to turn up late, make sure that you never get anywhere on time. Don’t make a big deal about it, but now’s the chance for you to really show her you can play the game. Be just nice enough to keep her around, and you can work out your hang-ups and bitterness on the woman who causes them. There’s no need for a fresh, attractive woman to go to waste because you’re still hung up about your ex.
Make sure that you keep the relationship with your ex casual. You’re just doing this to get back some confidence in yourself. Once you’ve proven that you’re a successful man with a lot to offer you’re not going to need her anymore. Avoid talks of commitment at all costs. If possible, avoid her birthday as well. Getting a boyfriend level gift for the woman who gets you out of your rut is a bit expensive.
End Things on Your Terms This Time
When you feel like yourself again, end things with her. That’s all there is to it. Make sure that you end things entirely on your terms. Take her out and lay down how it is over dinner. You don’t have to be cruel, but you should be firm that it’s over. You’ll feel in control again, and your relationship with her will have served its purpose. You can move on and so can she. After all, you knew going into it that it hadn’t worked out the last time.
